However, the land was appealing as a retreat to the mighty industrialists who were developing Chicago as a marketplace for the agrarian economy, through financial and trade institutions. To escape the hot Chicago summers, wealthy families would move to their summer home on Lake Geneva as soon as the school vacation began.
